Georgina Kar: Walk In Her Wardrobe
Fashion stylist and creative consultant Georgina Kar calls the picturesque Eastern Suburbs home. Like the rest of us, she walks a busy life, balancing the stream of work (styling projects, shoots, brand collaborations and working with personal clients) with family, friends and, of course, herself.
“Every week is different, which I love—it keeps me on my toes, there’s always something fun and interesting happening.”
We asked Georgina for the dossier on her wardrobe and more, including the summer styling tips we’re popping in our back pockets – ready for a season of personalised, plenty-of-fun daily dressing.
On her style evolution:
My style has evolved naturally over time, shaped by both personal experiences and my work as a stylist. Initially, I was all about experimenting with trends, but now I've honed in on a more refined yet versatile wardrobe.
My personal style today balances comfort with sophistication, blending minimalist elegance with an edge. I love playing with proportions, mixing oversized pieces with more tailored, structured ones. Feeling free and comfortable while still looking polished and put together.
On ‘you’ outfits:
For me, an outfit feels like "me" when it’s minimal and pared back. I don’t wear as much colour these days, so I focus on clean lines and simple, well-chosen pieces that let my personal style shine through, and I always wear some gold hardware, as I love accessorising to add a touch of drama.
On high-repeat items:
Other than activewear, my Agolde, Levi's, and Mother jeans are my go-tos, and I have a rotation of pants that I mix up regularly. I live in my Adidas Sambas, which I have in a few colourways.
I always incorporate gold hardware into my outfits, whether it’s delicate necklaces or statement earrings. I like to mix these up most days and my vintage Chanel bag is a staple for me—it’s the perfect size and fits everything I need to carry.
On summer styling tips:
- Choose light fabrics like linen and cotton to keep cool.
- Stick to neutral tones and easy layers for a chic look without overheating.
- Swap out heavy footwear for sleek sandals or breathable sneakers.
- Don’t forget fun accessories like wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
With these tips, you can stay comfortable and maintain your personal style all season long!
On her average day:
My days can vary quite a bit, whether I’m on set, prepping for a shoot, working with personal clients, or handling admin and meetings. I gravitate towards pieces that make me feel good and put together, no matter how diverse my schedule might be.
I start by dropping off my daughter at school, which adds a touch of family time to my day. From there, I might head to a shoot, client meeting, or prep session. For these days, comfort is key. I typically wear jeans or tailored pants paired with my Chanel flats or sneakers. I often wear an oversized tee for an effortless look and layer with a cashmere knit and a bomber or trench coat for practicality.
When working with personal clients or prepping, my outfit remains comfy. I might choose an elevated look, like an oversized blazer, dress or a maxi skirt, while sticking with pieces that allow me to move freely and stay stylish throughout the day.
On balancing all the plates (with the help of a curated wardrobe):
I balance the various aspects of my life with a well-curated capsule wardrobe. By focusing on great basics and staples, I ensure that my wardrobe can be dressed up or down, whether it’s for motherhood, work, social events, or travel. Over time, I’ve become more selective in my shopping, prioritising quality over quantity. This approach makes me feel confident and comfortable, allowing me to navigate all areas of my life with ease.
On her home and studio:
My home and studio are curated to be both inspiring and functional. I aim to create a space that reflects my personal style while fostering creativity and comfort. My inspiration comes from Danish interiors, which I find elegant and timeless.
I choose minimal, timeless pieces with a neutral colour palette to promote calm. I also invest in standout items and art that add joy and a touch of colour. My space is organised; I like to have clear spaces to think and stay inspired.
Whether I’m working on creative projects or relaxing at home, I want my space to bring joy and peace. This helps me stay grounded and motivated, allowing my surroundings to enhance rather than distract from my work.
On finding inspiration:
I find inspiration from a diverse range of sources. I love diving into old magazines like American, French, and British Vogue, as well as Wallpaper* and W Magazine for fashion ideas. I’ve kept so many of them over the years, and my art book collection is a true treasure – I can spend hours flipping through them. Every time, I discover something new.
I’m particularly drawn to Pernille Teisbaek and Kelly Wearstler for their unique personal styles and interiors. Carine Roitfeld has always been a muse for her rock-and-roll attitude and fearlessness, while Jacquemus captivates me with his authenticity and brilliant marketing.
I wish I had more time to listen to a wider variety of podcasts, but when I do, I listen to The Diary of a CEO and Mel Robbins for their honesty and refreshing perspectives, and art is a huge source of inspiration for me. I love the works of Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Kruger, and Tracey Emin. I can easily lose myself in their art.
On resetting and relaxing:
The ocean soothes me and gives me the sense of calm and stillness that I crave. Given how busy life can be, I find it challenging to switch off completely. I walk often, Pilates as often as I can, and incorporate mindfulness and meditation into my routine. Some days, disconnecting entirely and embracing a low-key day also helps. I also love being around loved ones; it energises me and helps me feel balanced.
