Mattie Gouman has been high on this radar for a long while now. At only 25, the self-confessed fashion-lover is a prolific content creator and the founder of Two Swim (started with her best friend from uni). She’s also got that Blanca vibe down-pat: always popping colour and personality, driven by comfort and confidence, as Mattie shares her loves, her outfit checks, small biz hacks and more online. 

Here’s what the wardrobe looks like in Mattie’s world, with more must-visit Melbourne spots, too.

On her style evolution:

Personally, I have always loved colour; anything with a frill, bow, ruffle or fun, colourful texture has my name written all over it, and that has never changed.

I think I have now streamlined my wardrobe to ensure comfortability and longevity – you aren’t going to grab anything from your wardrobe if it’s not comfy to wear OR it is disintegrating and can’t manage multiple washes. I still have lots of colour, but focusing on investing in a great pair of jeans, a high-quality white tee shirt and then splurging on the fun colour jacket or outerwear and accessories is my kind of vibe!

On crafting a ‘you’ outfit:

It has to be anything with a pop of colour or a fun handbag or accessory!!

On high-repeat items:

Recently, my Mattie x Pared sunglasses. There are six colours I have created with Pared Eyewear, and I couldn't have created more “me” sunglasses. They are the PERFECT summer accessory and I actually can't leave the house without multiple pairs! Trust me.

Also my new Blanca set. I will be living in this stripe green and white set all summer long.

On her average day:

Honestly, no day is the same for me, which I love. One day, I could be putting my business hat on and I'm packing lots of parcels and planning a new collection, and then the next hat may be content creation world, running off to events and meetings! Just how I like it, something to look forward to each day!

On balancing all the plates (with the help of a curated wardrobe):

My wardrobe is definitely made for being on the go, whether that be for travelling, events, coffee catch ups, business meetings or just comfy at home. My favourite hack is always having a base outfit, such as a great relaxed white t-shirt and pair of jeans and then adding pops of colours to build on this. 

You can elevate the most simple outfits so much by adding colour through accessories or statement pieces, e.g. shoes, jackets or knitwear, which I think has always helped me go from day to night or work to play!

On summer wears:

Always in my Two Swim swimwear by the beach in South Australia with my family; it’s my favourite way to spend the holiday/summer period. Usually throwing on a big oversized T shirt or a floaty summer dress, hat, thongs and running down to the beach for a swim.

On the daily leave-home essentials:

It goes without saying, but my phone, definitely (a very unnecessary amount) of lip products, a portable charger (if you know me, I will forever be the useful one in the friendship group with this as someone always ends up needing it) and a pair of sunglasses!

On her wardrobe tips:

This could be a weird one, but I colour-coordinate my wardrobe, so when my clothes are hanging in my wardrobe, it’s a really fun and easy way to pick up colours you like or see things better to mix and match, especially when you are running out the door!

On finding inspiration:

My style icon honestly has to be my mum; she’s not only taught me so much about fashion and being confident in who you are and not following trends, but she also knows how to put together a fabulous outfit. 

I used to collect fashion magazines religiously – Vogue, ELLE, even the old Dolly mags. Now I have them online, but I will forever enjoy flicking through old magazines and finding inspo.

However, I think my favourite way to find new inspiration is through travelling and noticing how other people style certain pieces or how they choose to put outfits together. Plus, of course, Pinterest. If I'm ever stuck for a last-minute outfit, I’m most of the time scrolling and pinning.

On resetting and relaxing:

Always with a cup of tea, probably watching my guilty pleasure – The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills – and running a bath, possibly with some chocolate or sweet treat. That is my kind of heaven.

On our weekend plans:

I would have a whole day planned! 

I would start you off at one of my favourite cafes; it's called Lenny, super cute with pink interiors and gorgie sun umbrellas, the perfect coffee and fit check spot to start your day! Then I would take you into the city to roam the NGV and walk around the galleries to take in all the wonderful colourful art. I always leave there feeling so inspired. 

Of course, no trip to Melbourne is right without a spot of shopping and then back to the cutest wine bar in Albert Park, Wally’s, for a 5pm wine in the sunshine. There are just way too many spots in this city that I would want to show you!
